ShivAnuj Diagnostic Center offers ultrasound (sonography) for the abdomen, pelvis, small parts and vascular studies, alongside elastography and digital X-ray, at Harni–Warasiya Ring Road in Vadodara. Scans are performed and reported by Dr. Shivani Kodnani (MD Radiodiagnosis, DNB, MNAMS, gold medalist) on a Mindray Resona i9 system, with Fujifilm digital radiography.

Scans we perform

- Abdomen and pelvis — liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder, uterus and ovaries, prostate
- Obstetric scans — see pregnancy ultrasound
- Small parts — thyroid, breast, scrotum, soft-tissue lumps
- Musculoskeletal — shoulder, knee and other joints, tendons
- Doppler studies — arterial and venous Doppler of the limbs, carotid Doppler, renal and obstetric Doppler
- Elastography — liver and breast stiffness assessment
- Liver fat quantification — an ultrasound-based measure of fatty liver
- Digital X-ray — low-dose Fujifilm digital radiography
Elastography: measuring stiffness, not just appearance
A conventional ultrasound shows what tissue looks like. Elastography adds a measure of how stiff it is, which is useful because disease often changes stiffness before it changes appearance.
Liver elastography
Fibrosis makes the liver stiffer. Liver elastography gives a non-invasive estimate of stiffness, which is why it is widely used to assess and monitor fibrosis in fatty liver disease, hepatitis and other chronic liver conditions, and why it can reduce the need for biopsy in some patients. It is painless and takes a few minutes. Results are affected by recent food, so you will usually be asked to fast.
Breast elastography
Used alongside standard breast ultrasound, elastography adds stiffness information about a lump. It is an adjunct that helps characterise a finding; it does not replace ultrasound, mammography or biopsy.
Liver fat quantification
Fatty liver is common and often picked up incidentally. Describing it as mild, moderate or severe on a grey-scale image is subjective. Ultrasound-based fat quantification puts a number on it, which makes it far easier to tell whether diet, weight loss or treatment is actually working when the scan is repeated months later.

Preparation
| Scan | Preparation |
|---|---|
| Upper abdomen / whole abdomen | Fast for 6–8 hours. Plain water is allowed. |
| Pelvis (non-obstetric) | Full bladder — drink water about an hour before and do not empty your bladder. |
| Liver elastography | Fast for at least 4–6 hours; confirm when booking. |
| Thyroid, breast, scrotum, MSK | No preparation needed. |
| Doppler | Usually none. Wear loose clothing over the area. |
Bring previous scans, reports and your referral letter. Comparison with earlier imaging genuinely changes the report.
Questions patients ask
Do I need to fast for an ultrasound?
For upper abdomen or whole abdomen scans, yes — 6 to 8 hours, with plain water allowed. Thyroid, breast and musculoskeletal scans need no preparation. Pelvic scans need a full bladder instead.
Is elastography painful?
No. It is performed with the same ultrasound probe and feels like an ordinary scan. There are no needles and no injection.
Can elastography replace a liver biopsy?
In many situations it reduces the need for biopsy by giving a non-invasive estimate of fibrosis, and it can be repeated to track change. It does not replace biopsy in every case — your physician decides based on the whole picture.
How soon do I get the report?
Routine ultrasound reports are usually available the same day, and can be sent to your phone. Please ask at reception for the expected time when you book.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
Bring a referral if you have one, as it tells us the clinical question. Please call +91 94289 74800 to check before coming for a specific study.
Is ultrasound radiation?
No. Ultrasound uses sound waves and involves no ionising radiation. X-ray, which we also offer, does use radiation and is performed only when clinically indicated.
