Eye Testing & Spectacles in Vadodara

Good glasses start with an accurate number — and an eye that is healthy. At ShivAnuj, your number is checked as part of a full eye examination, and frames and lenses are fitted in-house.

A spectacle prescription (chashme ka number, chashma no number) measures how your eye focuses light. But a change in number is not always just a change in number. Cataract, diabetes, glaucoma and retinal problems can all affect vision or make the number shift — which is why, at an eye hospital, the number is checked alongside the health of the eye.

At ShivAnuj Eye Hospital & Diagnostic Center on Harni–Warasiya Ring Road, your eyes are examined under the supervision of Dr. Anuj Kodnani, and frames and lenses are dispensed and fitted in our optical section.

What the eye test includes

Children, and some adults, may need dilating drops before the final number is decided, because young eyes can focus strongly enough to mask the true power. Vision can stay blurred for a few hours afterwards, so plan accordingly.

Lens options

LensWhat it gives youWorth knowing
Single visionOne distance — far, or readingSimplest and most common. Separate reading glasses may be needed after 40.
BifocalDistance on top, reading in a segment belowEasy to adapt to; the reading segment is visible as a line.
ProgressiveDistance, intermediate and near in one lens, with no visible lineMost natural for all-day wear. Takes a short time to get used to; accurate fitting matters.
Progressive for rimless framesAs above, in a frameless or rimless styleNeeds a suitable lens material and careful fitting.

Options such as anti-reflection coating, photochromic lenses that darken in sunlight, and thinner high-index lenses for high numbers are available. Blue-filter coatings are popular; evidence that they protect the eyes is limited, and we are happy to explain what they can and cannot do so you can decide.

Frames

Our optical section stocks frames in a range of shapes — round, oval, square, rectangular and aviator — and materials including metal, acetate and combination frames, in full-rim, half-rim and rimless styles, across a range of prices. Sunglasses and ready reading glasses are also available.

Already have a frame you like? You are welcome to bring your own frame and have new lenses fitted to it.

On cost: the price depends mainly on the lens type and power, and on the frame you choose. Ask at reception or call +91 94289 74800 for current frame and lens prices.

After cataract surgery

If you have had cataract surgery, your final glasses are usually prescribed about four to six weeks later, once the eye has settled. Your lens choice at surgery decides how much you will need them.

Would you rather not wear glasses?

For suitable adults with a stable number, ICL or LASIK can reduce or remove the need for distance glasses. A detailed assessment decides whether it is right for you.

Questions patients ask

How often should I get my eyes tested?

For most adults, every one to two years is reasonable, and sooner if your vision changes. People with diabetes should have a yearly eye examination. For children, your doctor will advise how often based on their eyes.

Why does my spectacle number keep changing?

Some change is normal, especially in children and after 40. But frequent or sudden changes can be caused by cataract, fluctuating blood sugar in diabetes or other eye conditions, so they are worth having examined rather than just updating the glasses.

Will I need eye drops for the test?

Not always. Dilating drops are commonly used for children and sometimes for adults, either to find the true number or to examine the back of the eye. If drops are used, vision can stay blurred and sensitive to light for a few hours.

Can I bring my own frame?

Yes. You can bring a frame you already own and have new lenses fitted to it, provided the frame is in good condition and suitable for the lens type you need.

How long does it take to get my glasses?

It depends on the lens. Common single-vision lenses are usually quicker; progressive and special lenses take longer because they are made to your measurements. The team will give you a date when you order.

Do I need blue-light glasses for computer work?

They are not essential. Eye strain from screens is mainly caused by reduced blinking and long periods of close focus. The right prescription, regular breaks and the 20-20-20 habit usually help more. We can explain the options if you are still interested.
